Running a sports league in Singapore is a challenging enterprise, given the market being small and also difficulty in bringing in the audience and sponsorship for the matches. Bob Turner started his career as a basketball player, moved on to become a coach and then expanded the Australian National Basketball League to Asia. In the process, he set up the Singapore Slingers team with considerable amount of success as a private enterprise and got them to compete in the Australian League for 3 years. Now together with Tony Fernandes from AirAsia, he pioneered the Asean Basketball League that started this year with the games telecast on ESPN. While watching an exciting Asean basketball league match recently, we sat down with Bob who tells us of his excitement in running a basketball team as a sports enterprise and the challenges ahead to maintain a basketball league for ASEAN. Currently, the Ideas.Inc Business Challenge organized by Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre, NTU and SPRING Singapore is still ongoing before the deadline for executive summary on 27 November 2009. Over the past two months, I have conducted three Executive Summary Workshops in NTC, Civil Service College and National Library Board for about 150 participants. In each of the workshop, I included a short presentation, an ideas generation workshop and an executive summary review with the participants. In this post, I will share with you the Executive Summary presentation which I broke down into four main themes: (1) Identification of a business opportunity, (2) Why and How to write an executive Summary and (3) Resources on sites for people who are setting up businesses should go.
