Australia Radio National recently did a radio program on e-books at the Brisbane Writers Festival. Of the four panelists, only one actually owned an electronic book reader. A number of benefits were cited of e-books, including convenience of purchase, lower book prices (especially compared to the prices of printed books in Australia), and better access from rural locations.
However, the overall impression was that printed books and traditional bookstores will continue to exist for some time. Read more
McAfee, the security juggernaut, has signed a “definitive agreement” to acquire Singapore-headquartered mobile security firm, tenCube, with the acquisition expected to close within the month. We have been covering tenCube since the company first won Start-Up@Singapore (2006), to launching WaveSecure (2007), to chatting with tenCube CEO Darius Cheung at a Nokia summit (2009) to its most recent accolades in Silicon Valley. Professor, consultant and longtime angel investor, Prof Wong Poh Kam is an industry veteran. As an angel investor, he has invested in many high-tech firms and sits on the boards of many. He is also the Director of the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre and holds positions at the various institutions and consults widely for international agencies such as the World Bank as well as many high tech firms in Asia. Prof Wong was recently at OpenWebAsia 2010 (held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) to share his thoughts on cross border angel investing.

Unified Communications (UC) solutions company, Consilium Software has just raised an undisclosed round of Series A funding from JAFCO Asia.
Headquartered in Singapore, Consilium has operations in India, Taiwan, Canada and Southeast Asia, having acquired a customer base in more than 30 countries.
With the funds, Consilium plans to move its UC solutions for enterprises and contact centers towards an Software-As-A-Service model to ease the adoption of UC applications, including multi-channel, multi-site contact centers, that were previously associated with high cost and complexity.
Pramod Ratwani, President and Executive Chairman, Consilium Software, said that, “This investment and backing from JAFCO Asia will enable us to further accelerate IP creation and product development, grow our managed service model into a disruptive technology, and bolster Consilium’s position as a dominant player in the Asia Pacific and globally. Consilium’s SaaS (Software as a Service) offering backed by our robust support, strong consulting and software professional services, and international reach will offer unique value to customers.”
