Microsoft launches Office 365 in Asia and the world

Large enterprises, SMEs and startups in Singapore and Malaysia can now enjoy Office 365, Microsoft’s new cloud-based productivity and collaboration suite.

The service, launched on June 29, offers features like Office Web Apps, which allows users to view and edit Office documents, as well as the ability to integrate voicemail with email, calenders and contacts. Read more

Singapore takes five of top 12 spots at WSJ Asian Innovation Awards

A light artificial kidney (left) that provides constant dialysis for patients with kidney failure, and a baby breath monitor that tracks the breathing patterns of infants when they are sound asleep; these are some Singaporean inventions that made it to the summit of The Wall Street Journal’s Asian Innovation Awards.

These products are the brainchild of Excelpoint Systems and Awak Technologies respectively.

The Awards, organized in partnership with Credit Suisse, aims to find and recognize up-and-coming innovations in Asia. Entries may come from individuals, small businesses, large corporations or academia. All 12 innovators will be featured on The Wall Street Journal, out of which three will win the gold, silver and bronze awards and one will clinch the Credit Suisse Technopreneur of the Year Award. Contactless payment system provider ViVOtech raises US$24 Million

ViVOtech, a software and hardware provider of contactless payment systems for companies like Google, closed their Series C funding recently, raising US$24 million (S$ 29 million) which will be used for growth and expansion as it is poised to make forays into more countries beyond the current 35.

Singapore’s EDBI, Singtel Innov8 and Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, which contributed to this round of funding, join Alloy Ventures, Citi Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurveston, DFJ Gotham, First Data Corporation, Miven Ventures, Motorola Mobility, Nokia Growth Partners and NCR as ViVOtech investors. TransferTo Launches Mobile Airtime Application on iOS and Android

If you attended the Mobile Money Summit, you might already know TransferTo, a provider of international airtime transfer services. They had an exclusive preview of their new mobile application on iOS and Android during Mobile Money Summit this week, 27-30 June.

Their app, called Mobile Airtime Smartphone, is the product of a partnership between TransferTo and DonRiver, a leading mobile payments consulting and application development firm.

It will provide a convenient way to transfer airtime internationally using a smartphone. Users can transfer small amounts of value in the form of prepaid mobile credits. For example, 15 minutes of airtime in US (at US$6) can be transferred to India for 250 minutes of airtime (at 200 INR) — more than 16 times the value, which makes it a low cost and high value complement to cash remittances. LivingSocial acquires three Asian daily deal companies

Groupon rival LivingSocial has acquired DealKeren, a daily deal site in Indonesia, Ensogo, which owns DealKeren and has a presence in the Phillipines and Thailand as well, and GoNabit, a daily deals site operating in five Middle Eastern countries, it announced in a press release on 27 June.
