Amit: thoughts on events such as DEMOAsia happening in Singapore?
Jeff: This is a helpful and good forum for Singapore and the entrepreneurial scene in Asia in general. It gives us a chance to look at new ideas and also for the entrepreneurs to expose themselves to venture capitalists as well.
Michel: yes this is good forum. Too bad not enough time for us to talk to the individual inventors.
Guy: yes this is a good forum. We are always looking at new technologies and new inventors to invest in.

Michel: some of the products shown may have a problem breaking to highly regulated industries hence suffer from a problem in terms of adoption. So try to steer clear from highly regulated industries.
Guy: I need to emphasize on the strong IP protection. Of course, things are getting better in Asia now. However, if you do not have strong IP protection, chances are high, any interesting products or ideas will be quickly copied by competitors.

15.39
Jeff: Some of the pitches we have seen they look for a problem and then they search for a solution. Some have it the other way round. They first develop a solution first. So when those with a solution first situation, they need to focus on 1 problem that fits the solution they have.

15.37
Amit: Questions for all 3 gentlemen. Regardless the domain, there are some broad common steps that need to be done by entrepreneurs. Eg, IP protection espoused by Guy. What do you think the steps need to be covered by entrepreneurs?
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.35
Guy: You will need to know how to pick a great market and setup IP which is getting better in Asia. Big players like Samsung will have no problems copying technology if you do not have technology patents.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.33
Jeff: I favor those doing the materials like TerraBarrier and Sofshell pad as they have a good chance for wide adoption.
Guy: the 3DI will have difficulties against the big players like Samsung, LG.
Michel: I have concerns if the circular form of the Sofshell Pad is crucial to the performance. If it is, it will have limits on the adoption of the product.

time for 90 seconds pitch. and Lyrex is up first about bed sores. And it is a USD4billion dollar market. A product that will inform the patients when to move to prevent bed sores.

Apparently, they just use blood samples that will help in instant diagnosis that usually take up to months.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.17
The company presenting this non-invasive cancer diagnosis method is CellSievo Pte Ltd.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.15
I see where 9degrees is going with this product. It is taking a data-analysis approach towards improving sports performance.
They have stopped and the next pitch is about non-invasive cancer diagnosis

15.14
Okay I saw their software analysis tool. It is called WhackIT.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.13
Looks like their sensor works to track the strength of stroke, speed of ball when a tennis player uses their product.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.12

15.11
Ah.. apparently an avatar moves as the dancers move. They are using a infrared sensor tied to the wrists of the dancers.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.09
And they opened with a salsa number. I guess I can say I have seen them all in this year’s DEMOAsia.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.08
next pitch is about improving your performance…. in sports. Okay so I stole that line from Tim, the emcee. It is a good line.
_________________________________________________________________________________
15.07
Okay the last thing Marc of TeraBarrier Films tell us is that they have SGD40 million in Customer Intent before summarily cut by the sound crew who obviously are very strict about the 6 minute limit.

15.06

15.06

15.06
This TeraFilm also increases the performance and lifespan of solar cells dramatically.
I don’t know about you, but now I know how the non-geeks feel when they listen to those API related presentations.

Apparently Tera-Barrier Films Pte Ltd are selling a different Tera Film compared with Plastic Film.
They claim that their TeraFilm only allows 1 droplet of water per meter square compared with 30 liters of water in the same area per year.

The iPhone was still working after that bowling ball!
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.58
Ha. They just dropped a bowling bowl. Not 6, not 8 but 12 pounds of bowling ball on an iPHONe!!!
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.57
They protected the watermelon from being nailed with the Sofshell pad.
And then they proceeded to hammer a demonstrator’s hand wearing a Sofshell pad.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.56
I think the Sofshell just dropped a giant nail into a watermelon.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.55
Elgin just gave the customary “Kids don’t try this at home ” line.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.54
Elgin is presenting Sofshell as a gel-based impact protection solution.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.53
Elgin started by smashing a brick with a hammer… to highlight about impact protection.
He started on fire.. sounding like a tv commercial. Ha.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.53
Apparently, Elgin the presenter from Sofshell had downed 5 RedBulls this morning according to Tim.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.52
3DI went slightly overtime but they showed 3 tv screens — 1 SuperStreetFight4, 1 Transformer movie, 1 photo album
and we now have the next pitch by Sofshell
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.50
Apparently they are doing 3D without the viewer wearing 3D glasses. They are doing it with a piece of glass and a one-time install of software. I have to say the 3D effects are there, but not very obvious to me.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.47
Woo.. they are showing a StreetFighter4 game. 3DI thinks the best market for their product would be the games market.
_________________________________________________________________________________
14.46
Okay a little bit of drama, Alfred just threw away a pair of 3D glasses.
_________________________________________________________________________________
