Wego, a travel metasearch company focused on the Asia-Pacific, announced yesterday that it has invested in Valadoo, an Indonesia-based social commerce travel business that provides members with a curated selection of unique, discounted travel offers targeting the country’s growing number of leisure travelers.

This investment is part of the Singapore-based company’s strategy to develop the Indonesian travel industry, which is one of the fastest growing in Asia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Valadoo offers getaways to both domestic and international destinations, such as exotic dive packages in Raja Ampat Papua, as well as shopping trips to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Offerings from Valadoo will be added to the collection of travel deals that Wego already markets at wego.co.id/deals. The content could also be featured on the 39 metasearch sites Wego operates in 30 languages around the world.

Wego compares over 350,000 accommodation options and 600 full service and low cost carriers globally.

The company launched a dedicated travel metasearch site in Bahasa Indonesia earlier this year. It is rapidly expanding its domestic operations by partnering with local travel businesses to enhance its domestic hotel and flight offering and provide more locally relevant deals and packages.

Valadoo will join Wego to collaborate on exclusive daily deals, editorial content, digital marketing, and social programs.

Valadoo’s co-founder, Jaka Wiradisuria, will continue as its CEO, while Wego co-founders Ross Veitch (CEO) and Craig Hewett (CCO) both join the Valadoo Board of Commissioners. Graham Hills, managing director of Wego Indonesia, joins the Valadoo Board of Directors.

Valadoo will operate indepedently while leveraging from the resources and expertise of Wego to help the business scale.

“Valadoo recognised early the demand among urban Indonesians to explore and enjoy domestic travel. The country is in a discovery phase and the tourism network is rapidly expanding to cater to it, but the options need to be affordable. Valadoo therefore has a great proposition and a talented team,” says Hills.

Wiradisuria adds: “We see the partnership as a significant development for the Indonesia tourism industry as it will help open up more tourism options for both domestic and international travelers to explore Indonesia.”
