The First State of Our Blog
July 9, 2006 by Bernard Leong

We are one year old today. As a tribute, we want to say a few words about what we have done so far and how our milestones are going to be in the next year. Over the year, we have started from a blogger account and evolved towards a wordpress engine. We have successfully begun from a team of three founders to now eleven with eight contributors. We have bootstrapped as entrepreneurs from a blog with zero cents to a positive revenue flow where we share our dividends with our contributors. Now we need to look ahead and in the coming year, here is what we want to achieve with the Singapore Entrepreneurs blog. If you like to be part of this movement, share our vision and move ahead. Yet the state of our Blog has never been stronger.
On 9 July 2005, we officially posted our first blog entry for SG Entrepreneurs in the blogger site. We (Gwen, Weichang and BL) started with a founders agreement and a business plan on how to develop the blog in phases. Of course, the first and foremost aim of our team is to spread the spirit of enterprise and entrepreneurship in Singapore, balanced between theory and pragmatism. If we are truly entrepreneurs, we should also apply our entrepreneurial skills to grow the blog to become a portal for entrepreneurial education in several areas: venture capital and private equity, entrepreneurship, and the “how-to”s guide for setting up business in Singapore.
We made a couple of milestones which we believe that are important to our growth and set the path for our future.
- A strong team: We are fortunate to have distinguished entrepreneurial bloggers to join us. Without them, we cannot have the diversity of content in this blog ranging in a variety of subjects. We thank Bjorn, Brian, Cobalt Paladin, Darius, Der Shing, Justin, Legal Janitor and Wannapreneur for joining the SG Entrepreneurs team. We have managed to set up a system to reward our contributors team, and we hope to continue our policy to share the dividends of our work with the people who contributed most for our blog.
- A well-connected network: We have strong partners such as National Library Board, Entrepreneur 27 (Singapore Chapter), NUS Entrepreneurship Society and NUS Entrepreneurs Association that we cooperate and synergize to maximize our coverage. We are already start our new linking up with other well-known organizations in the country.
- Press: We have been featured in Business Visitor Magazine, Straits Times and High Browse Online.
- Acknowledgements: We thank Mr Wang and Hui Chieh for their help to promote our blog in the beginning of our formation and subsequently our change to Web 2.0. We also thank other bloggers for promoting some of our entries in tomorrow.sg to others over the year.
Of course, this message is not about our past, but our future. We lay our plans for the coming year, and we hope that anyone with a spirit of enterprise to come forward to help us for our future:
- SG Entrepreneurs Wiki project: We hope to create a wikipedia resource for young entrepreneurs. Our site admin, Weichang is currently working on this new project and we hope to set it for launch by the beginning of next month.
- SG Entrepreneurs & Entrepreneur27 Lecture Circuit: We have initiated a series of enterprise and entrepreneurship lectures in the coming weeks in different institutions, kudos to Bjorn and Justin for organizing these events. Our first stop is Raffles Junior College. We are aiming to produce either the first podcast and videocast for one of the events in this lecture circuit.
- Linking to local and global traffic: We are in the process of getting new strategic partners from the local and global community. We will be seeing some new additions in the next few months.
We also hope to grow good content and projects from this blog to continually engage people in the spirit of enterprise.
We thank everyone for their support and we strive forward into our second year.
May we succeed in our future endeavours from here on.
yours sincerely,
SG Entrepreneurs Founders
