Major Announcement: Gwendolyn Tan, the current chief editor of Singapore Entrepreneurs (SGE) is slated to become the new chief editor of Malaysia Entrepreneurs (MYE). A few weeks of serious and intense negotiations over Skype were made between both managers, BL and Daniel Cerventus. There were also several last minute urgent flights that both Gwen and BL had taken to KL to meet with the team of MYE.
The appointment is slated to start in 1 May 2009 with Gwen to be a joint chief editor of both SGE and MYE with her spending at least 4 days in Kuala Lumpur this weekend. This would be the first extended trip on her end that would give her enough time to bond with the MYE team. They intend to take her on a sight-seeing tour around KL and bring her on an all-expenses paid diving holiday around Malaysia’s many wonderful islands as a welcome gift.
On the appointment, BL believes that it is a good step to the future, paving the way to a possible merger of the two online portals by the end of the year. He believes that the combined merger of SGE and MYE will allow them to take out the whole Southeast Asia market. They have ear-marked the end of July 2009 to begin discussions of this potential merger.
Originally reluctant to this joint editor deal, it took him some time to concede that it is better off than losing Gwen as a full time editor in SGE. He hopes that Gwen’s appointment in MYE will show an example that Singaporeans should stop complaining about foreign talent in Singapore and instead, focus their attention on becoming foreign talent in other countries. He joked, “If they cannot become foreign talent, they should at least try being entrepreneurs. Given the choice of failure and trying, I think that Singaporeans should learn to create new wealth for themselves.”
His counterpart, the current manager of MYE, Daniel Cerventus hails the appointment of Gwen as the chief editor, “We are looking for fresh new ideas to take us forward. SGE has established itself as the top online destination for entrepreneurship in Singapore. We did think about appointing an editor within MYE, but we thought that it is good to replicate its success in Malaysia.”
The appointment will be for 3 years but no further details can be revealed. On the appointment, Gwen thinks it’s a great step forward for entrepreneurship in both Singapore and Malaysia. Also she appreciates the welcome gifts, but insists that the free apartment is unnecessary (though the holiday was a nice gesture).
Update: This was for our April Fool’s 2009.
