PM should touch on entrepreneurship (not GLC type), polluted Singapore languages, competitiveness of our youth, knowledge, SWOT, productivitiy etc.

In fact, digital media would cover a very wide berth and in itself supports a very wide variety of other industries.

Take for instance, information visualisation, which can be applied to manners of aircraft modeling and 3D visors for helping doctors train better.

It would also cover information design and the design of GUIs in not just consumer electronics of the current age but also interfaces for interactive devices and wearable computing.

The latter innovations (hardware devices with new interactive functionalities) would go under 3D gaming as well, especially if you follow the research that’s been going on at MIT’s Media Labs as well as some of the art and robotics research that’s being discussed on UNSW’s empyre mailing list.

Thanks for your reply. Digital media industry is one that I’m very interested in. I’m not sure if music is also considered part of it.

Anyway, I heard of the digital media lab in LA as well. That one is more focused on 3D graphics and animations, which I’m taking as a course right now. In that case, am I right to say that online gaming (esp 3D gaming) is in the digital media industry?

Actually, the digital media is one of the three pillars that Singapore will move towards for the innovation based driven economy. However, the issue which I will touch on more in the next part of my commentary, which will be in Singapore Angle, is more focussed towards censorship and opening up our society due to recent events, for example, Mr Brown vs MICA.

In any case, you should look at MDA for more information, and also I heard that NUS will be setting up a digital media research lab that will also have a branch in LA.

You are right. I forgot about those examples as they are mentioned in the part about welcoming foreign talent.
