I think a good way to understanding things that you can eliminate that will help reduce costs is to use Pareto's Principle, the 80:20 rule. This principle stats that for every 20% of input results in 80% of the action. For example 20% of the population controls 80% of the wealth... or 20% of your time at work results in 80% of your productivity.

Write down a list and try to figure out what that 20% is and get rid of the majority of that 80%. You'll be surprised how much you can do without with very little effect on your quality of life.

I couldnt agree more with saving $$ through office space and marketing. There are plenty of ways to market your business in this tough times at very low costs, its just knowing how to use them. Office rental isn't going to go down so soon for many. New businesses should really focus on alternative collaboration space like home / terrace / virtual office especially if they don't require clients to come over so often. Shared leasing is also a good idea if you can get a few like minded working partners to co-share a space :)

Nice article. It's indeed surprising to hear of companies that can still generate revenue in such tough times. I guess more companies need to follow suit and come up with creative ways to cut cost.
