Very interesting. There are implications here for how Singapore is perceived by the rest of the world. As a European a lot of people I work with are terrified of doing business with China due to the fear of IP being taken. People also wrongly associate Singapore with China. Put simply Singapore=China=stolen IP gets reinforced.

I personally had two immediate (unconsidered) reactions on first reading. Fusion Garage comes across as inexperienced and naive of the rules, which I automatically apply to Singapore in general. At the same time Mike Arrington writing about the problem in such a public way also comes across as unprofessional, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

I know every tech-blog aspires to be the next TechCrunch by publishing sensationalist stuff and tow the line of Mike Arrington. There is hardly any time to do any fact-checking or investigation. "Must..publish..now" must be the only thought going through the writer's brain but c'mon this is embarrassing:

"Shareholders on Fusion Garage does not want to work with Mike Arrington & TechCrunch:"

It's "Shareholders *of* Fusion Garage *do* not want to work with Mike Arrington & TechCrunch"

Your friendly neighbourhood grammar police

The CrunchPad is quite an interesting idea from a communications point of view. You have actually have a media publisher launching their own hardware instead writing about hardware from other vendors.

Would the CrunchPad succeed? I would say yes. Techcrunch has become such an online media powerhouse that it could use their own medium to create the marketing they need to make the Crunchpad a success.

Even if the CrunchPad failed, Fusion Garage would be well-known for taking up such an endeavour. Now, it has made Chandra and the incubator infamous.

The biggest problem for Fusion Garage and Chandra is that Google is like an elephant, it never forgets.

Some smart-ass, 2-bit know-it-all mouthing off at shareholder meeting perhaps?

This impatience seems to suggest that fella (or fellas) are either first-time investors, or got burnt badly in the real-estate bubble / financial melt-down (Leiman Brothers, et al) and in need of liquidity.

Or a government-linked entities panicking for results given the recent play-up of non-performing govt-funded startups.

Who knows. Agree that its all bad PR... but hey, if they can manufacture and sell in East Asia... why not? More power to you... just that perhaps you'll get knock-off by the dozen within 3 months. You'll need every marketing muscle you can get to flood the market - that goodwill which they have lost in North America - a huge market.
