After living in China I will tell yo that they are becoming more and more brand conscious. And with Chinese salaries set to increase, branding will play an important factor in China. Why do the Chinese copy designs and steal technology? It cuts the time to catch up with Europe and U.S.A. dramtically. Also, R&D is quite expensive and time consuming so it makes perfect sense to follow what works and make it your own.

Yes, to succeed in China and other emerging markets, you need to take a long term view, e.g. more than ten years. Another similar story : How Microsoft conquered China (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2007/07/23/100134488/index.htm)

I think so life is hard in China, and every one is hungry. No mercy for the weak. You just need to see the way they live to understand it.

Good article.

I'm quite intrigued by the Chinese, they could easily survive through any place or any situations.

Perhaps they are an evolutionary race?

Well-written article. You raised many good points.

Interestingly, there was an article on Techcrunch the other day about how there are so many German web 2.0 clones.
