This Week, Entrepreneurs Around The World: 26 May 2006

This week, we want to look at other interesting entrepreneurial blogs surrounding the realm of presentation, social entrepreneurship in the form of dealing with global warming, and how VC thinks.

  • Presentation Zen by Garr Reynolds is a blog focussing on professional presentation design. Yes, like him, we are all Mac-fans using keynote and not powerpoint. He gave good tips on how to lecture and keep’em engaged, good powerpoint designThis week, Garr Reynolds discussed a professional presentation made by a well-known serious politician who used to be perceived as boring by the American people. Another reason for putting this blog is to introduce this boring US politician who took the Cannes Festival in a storm with his new movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. He is none other than Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States who lost the 2000 US Presidential elections, but global warming has been one of his most passionate issues. Al Gore has used his influence to help the cause of dealing with global warming. Of course, I would urge most of you to do your part. Do you know that Singapore has one of the highest CO2 emissions in the world? There is a need for social entrepreneurship to engage our people in getting them to do their part for the environment.

Garr Reynolds summarize the important points of a serious presentation “that’s got the three key elements: (1) A crucially important (and controversial) topic, (2) an engaging delivery, and (3) visuals that are compelling, stunning and backup, and enhance the message.” (extracted from the blog entry)

  • Redeye VC is a venture capitalist who has a view of the startup ecosystem. In his blog, he presented Open Source Venture Financing Documents, his thoughts on Web 2.0 with a post entitled 53651 and 16.2% and particularly this one, Bridge Loans vs Preferred Equity.
