Michael Ma is the ambitious 38-year-old entrepreneur who founded the IndoChine Group of Restaurants and Bars. A unique reflection of contemporary Asian lifestyle, the Singapore-based IndoChine Group offers its discerning international clientele more than just a bevy of chic award-winning restaurants and bars. In addition to being voted as one of Travel & Leisure’s top ‘100 Fabulous Places and Things for 2001’, IndoChine is frequently the choice venue for prestigious events. The various locations have played host to two MTV Asia Post-Awards Parties, the Porsche Asia-Pacific Launch and most recently, the International Olympic Committee 2012 London, New York and Paris bids. In spite of being adventurous and dynamic in order to keep up with the constant competition in this ever-changing F&B industry, Michael remains an active environmentalist and conservationist. He has personally made it an IndoChine policy not to serve certain foods, such as sharks’ fin, caviar or blue and yellow fin tuna in all IndoChine kitchens. Energy conservation is also a big priority and waste is recycled as far as possible. In past years, Michael Ma has also actively contributed to a number of charitable causes such as, the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore, a fund for victims of the Bali bombing, Burmese refugees, the Singapore Red Cross, Action for Aids, National Kidney Foundation and the Kidney Dialysis Foundation.
His commerce background has indeed served him well. Just recently, Michael joined the committee for a national movement known as GEMS for Go the Extra Mile, a drive to push service standards in Singapore to an international level.
