The Nexus 2007 event organized by The Digital Movement, promises to be a major and interactive conference where the participants will be discussing fundamental changes happening in business and technology. It is happening on 24 March 2007 in NTUC Centre, 1 Marina Boulevard. While the organizers are working very hard to organize the interesting panels, we will feature one of the first panel in track 1 entitled Crowdsourcing The Media. So what are you waiting for? Do sign up your name to attend Nexus 2007 and don’t forget about the GeekOut pre-event.

From the Digital Movement:

First, Singapore Press Holdings emerged as a regional media powerhouse. Then internet media darlings like CNET emerged to disrupt the traditional media houses with their internet based model. Following which, bloggers came along to disrupt both of them, harnessing wisdom of the crowd to provide speedy reports and diverse range of opinions that is almost impossible to replicate in an editorial team.

You guys would have noticed how CNET is increasingly incorporating user contributed content into their site, ranging from increasing the prominence of user contributed tips and comments, to even paying bloggers a amount of money for contribution to the CNET blog. You would also be aware of SPH’s Stomp.com.sg, a form of “hyper-local” content, aggregating contribution from the local crowd. Bloggers, of course are the epitome of wisdom of the crowds, and their version of crowdsourcing is trading on the currency of mutual links and comments.

As companies SPH and CNET formulate responses into the their content generation and business models, most of us have one burning question: How will these very diverse groups come together in one interdependent ecosystem? What are the business models collaboration opportunities, and trends arising out of this phenomenon?

At Nexus, we want to provide some insight into that burning question, and we do that by bringing together 3 of the thought leaders today on this topic

1. James Seng, a long time Internet Pioneer, and founder of Tomorrow.sg
2. Kathy Teo, CNET Managing Director of APAC
3. Jennifer Lewis, Editor and one of the driving forces behind STOMP.com.sg
4. And moderated by Kevin Lim, SIM lecturer and the man behind the very popular blog, Theory.IsTheReason!

STOMP.COM.SG

Stomp.com.sg is the key engine behind SPH’s drive to harness the power of the crowd, and to stay more relevant than ever before. Jennifer Lewis, editor of Stomp.com.sg will be on the panel to discuss the evolution of Stomp.com.sg, the purpose behind STOMP and where it sees this media vehicle moving ahead, and providing the direction for the larger SPH body.

CNET

Kathy will share with us how one of the most influential voices online since the early days of the Internet is finding new ways to integrate “expert opinion” with user generated content to differentiate itself from the other multitude of emerging content providers.

Tomorrow.SG

James brings to the table his vast experience in founding Tomorrow.sg, his stint in IDA’s tracking disruptive technologies on the Internet, as well as his experiences as an successful technologist, entrepreneur (TechNet, POBox), and investor! He is very experienced in this field, so be sure to check him out!

Hi BL, thanks for the post! With the help of moderators like you, Kevin, Darius, etc, we are definitely working on making the program as useful and relevant as possible. For a concise representation of the program, check out http://www.nexus2007.com/nexus/Nexus2007.jpg!

Will also love feedback. A good discussion on the agenda has been going on in our wiki, looking forward to more ways to improve Nexus.

Lastly, we also confirmed 3 very cool presos/demos to be done during Geekout -> Shwup.com (p2p meets music synchronization), Velvet Puffin (Singapore’s first Techcrunch), and Genometric, who enables mass 3D customization. More coming up soon!
