We are now at Geek Terminal, attending the BlogOut! event organized by The Digital Movement. Of course, other than good food and drinks, we are here to provide live blogging and also what is happening there. The live blogging stopped halfway because the internet connection is not stable. So, we stopped the live-blogging and we give you a general review of the event.

7 pm: The event has just started. Estee is the emcee for the night. She has started to provide the administration for the night. She talks about why the Digital Movement is organizing the event BlogOut!.

7.20 pm: Nick from Microsoft is introduced to the stage. He introduce his team from Microsoft.

7.25 pm: Now Estee is introducing the communities: Ping.sg, Tomorrow.SG, STOMP, Moblog, Marketing Interactive, SG Entrepreneurs, Websg.org, and many other communities.

7.30 pm: Estee is now introducing Genie, a local artiste. As Genie is not well, they will be playing a video. Later she will be speaking. There are some problems with getting the volume of the song on. The team is fixing it, and now they are alright.

Genie came onto the stage, and talks about how she used blogging to publicize her music. She takes a picture with her phone and talks about how blogging has influenced her lifestyle. Now she uploads the picture into her blog.

7.35 pm: James and Choon Keat are now introducing their new web 2.0 start-up, SharedCopy.com. I like the joke about Choon Keat the geek. He’s now talking about how SharedCopy can help to do annotations on websites.

They are now looking for Chandra, CEO of Velvet Puffin, but he disappeared. Now we have the nominated hottest mommy blogger, Jayne (Eastcoastlife.blogspot.com) on stage. Yes, do vote for her to become the hottest mommy blogger.

Now, Chandra is back and now he’s coming up on stage.

(From Kevin Lim, Theory.isthereason.com)Okay, after that, I can’t get internet connection in the place, and stopped the live blogging process. Now, I will just talk about the event:The Good

  • 0. TDM team did a great job: They did all they can to make the event lively and engaging, not to mention Melvin winning the grand prize of the event. Estee did a great job to get the crowd lively as the emcee. Kudos to the team for putting up the whoie event, and setting up the screens with the help of the staff of Geek Terminal. The food and drinks have been great.
  • 1. Great place to meet fellow bloggers and professionals: I have enjoyed discussions on new media, corporate blogging and the present state of the Singapore blogosphere with Jennifer Lewis (head of STOMP), Van Tan, Debbie Cai, Cheo Ming Shen (CEO of Nuffnang), Darius Cheung (CEO of TenCube), Bianca Polak (Thalassa Consultancy), Melvin Yuan, Joe Augustin (the famous DJ and he told me to listen to FM91.3 since I am his old fan back in the days of FM 95.0), Clarice Chiam, Priscilla Teo (Fulford PR), Angeline Yeo (Marketing’s sister publication Procurement magazine), Huang Renzhi (The Digital Movement), Benjamin Koe, Brennan and Yoke Ching (moblog), founder (who I can’t remember the name from PitStop Cafe and Nic Fillingham (Channel 10) from Microsoft. I also have a great time catching up with Preetam, Prscilla, Coleman, Lucian, Walter, Ian Timothy, Andrew Peters and Kevin Lim.
  • 2. Good atmosphere for discussion of several topics: Although I did not manage to go to the geeks discussion, I have conducted a fun session discussing corporate blogging (which I will be addressing in another post). In fact, I wish to attend the mainstream media discussion, particularly, how new media can cooperate with old media.

The Bad:

  • 1. We need to show some courtesy to the presenters: Unfortunately, the panel and Genie’s presentation did not go well because a lot of people were talking behind. It may be good to respect them for spending their time to share their experiences and passion with the rest of us here. The accoustics made it difficult for many to listen to the panel.

Overall, it has been a great event, and I hope that the organizers will do more of these events. :)
