At the start of the pre-Nexus 2007 event, Andreas Weigend (Former Chief Scientist of Amazon.com) and Nathan Torkington (O’Reilly Radar) offered their thoughts with a group of up and coming web 2.0 companies that might be of interest.

Here are the companies presented by both speakers during the GeekOut!, a pre-Nexus 2007 event. We have extracted some information from their sites (only some of them) to the masses. This post will be updated as we go along in the GeekOut event.

From their website, “Wesabe is a community of people who share our experiences with our money so we can help each other make better financial decisions. We do this by aggregating and analyzing our community members’ personal financial data, and showing tips — recommendations to get the most from our money. These tips and recommendations come from the collective wisdom of our entire community. When one of us figures out how to make a great decision, we all learn.”

Twitter.com

Socialight.com
From their site, “Socialight is a fun, new community that lets you connect in totally new ways – by creating, sharing, and discovering virtual Sticky Notes placed at specific locations using your mobile phone or the web.
Socialight is about is location-based information. Geeks call it “geo-tagging”. With this service, you can create Stickies anywhere in the world for your friends, for everyone, or just for yourself. They can now contain text and photos, and soon you’ll be able to add sound clips and video.”

  • Hi, BL. You sure blog very fast. Saw this last night at the Geekout session. :-)

Perhaps you and your readers might be interested to read this: Insight#5: More Good Ways to Use Twitter.
  • Socialight is a very interesting site to watch out for. But I believe it be best for them to use Singapore or Hong Kong as a platform for the jump to the regions. The growth will be much faster.

  • uzyn,
I may seem to be making a shameless plug here (definitely not my reason for posting this comment), but you're part of the Invisible Crowd that I blogged about at http://thepr2.0universe.com/2007/03/14/conferen...

Let me know how it feels to be on the (virtual) side of this event? :-) Is this the way that events of the future will go? Or are we just feeling the heady rush of the virtual dimension?

    BL,
    we're experiencing first-hand,
Linda Stone's "Continuous Partial Attention" syndrome!
  • Nice live blogging, BL. Makes me feel not so much left out.

    See ya'll this Saturday!

The crowd here doesn't seem too enthusiastic about Twitter. Dimitry and another dude who were first to say they tried it, were the same first two who said they gave up on Twitter. Q. How long do you think you'll go on using it?

Ether looks VERY promising though... I've got plans already ;-)

XiD and Genometri - going by the questions and the conversations on the floor, the possibilities seem endless. But what struck me most, was that the movie makers (sci-fi and spy movies) are way ahead of us all, and the technologists are continually playing catch-up.
