Image, Video Recognition and Search With Fotegrafik Labs

February 7, 2010 by Gwendolyn Regina T

fotegrafik-logoBorn originally as an image bank where photographers and other image producers can monetize their content, Fotegrafik Pte Ltd saw a need in the market for increased simplicity in indexing, managing and searching through large libraries of digital assets (photos and videos). To address that need, they have developed image and video retrieval and search technologies with leading scientists at Israeli company, RTC Vision.

Fotegrafik’s Technologies And Their APIs

There are various methods to image recognition: metadata tags, digital watermarks, image fingerprinting…Fotegrafik uses a mixture of image fingerprinting and keyword tags to enable you to search pictures and videos. Each technology on its own is not the most efficient from a user browsing point of view, so combining them into a platform possibly enables faster and perhaps more accurate searches.

While such image search and recognition technologies usually remain proprietary to companies that developed it, Fotegrafik is offering some of its technologies to developers via APIs as Platform-as-a-Service / Software-as-a-Service models, enabling others to build their businesses on its platform.

So if you are trying to find copies of the photos you took online, or perhaps you want to enable customers to search through your inventory of t-shirts using colours and patterns similar to their favourites, you can do that.

Or you can also utilize Fotegrafik Prophecy, whereby you can search through videos. Prophecy also uses the image recognition technology so that you minimize your time spent analyzing videos frame by frame as it does it for you.

This video search technology is especially applicable in the surveillance and security industries.

The Company

The company, Fotegrafik Pte Ltd was established in 2007 and that was also when the original business – the image bank of stock photos, Fotegrafik.com was launched. Later on, Fotegrafik-Labs.com was created to showcase the image recognition and search technologies to serve primarily businesses and organizations.
