Organising Hangouts Made Easy With Foound
June 2, 2010 by Larissa THIA
Sometimes organising social events amongst a large group of friends via SMS can prove to be such a pain that we often feel very frustrated at the end of the whole process. If you’ve caught yourself nodding vehemently to the aforementioned problem, you might have foound your solution. Foound is an iPhone app, which aims to make “organizing hangouts simple and easy”.
Like “Facebook Events” On Mobile
Basically one can view foound as Facebook events on a mobile platform. With the app, users are able to update their location and invite friends to join them in real time. Most importantly, one can convey all the essential information – like location, time, attendance list, in a single message thereby reducing the hassle of having to send multiple messages to get the same thing done.
One can also send and receive updates to and from the other people on the invite list. However more than this, foound is unique in terms of enabling users to see where their friends are hanging out at any particular time thereby facilitating connection amongst friends within the same vincinity.

Foound vs. Foursquare?
At this point, you might be wondering how foound is unique in terms of enabling people to see where their friends are hanging out after all, fast rising social game Foursquare enables users to know where their friends are checked – in at at any point of time. Sure enough, the team was indeed asked this question at the Echelon 2010 StartUp launch pad (where foound pitched to a panel of judges on stage). And well, to quote them quoting Dave McClure ” no way any normal motherf***er is gonna do this check-in shit.”
Hangouts Made Easy
What foound really offers a simple solution to a very practical problem of simplifying the organization process of a meet – up. Messaging friends to organize social events and wanting to receive updates from them about their whereabouts is by far a more natural user behavior as opposed to wanting to know where your friends have “checked-in” in a game.
The philosophy behind foound is essentially to “bring the world closer one hangout at a time”. What’s more is that with this (currently free) app, users no longer have to pay for SMS services which are inadequate in capturing all the information that we need and forging the connectivity with the other people on the network that we desire.
Well then, with foound, not only is organizing activites made hassel free, not a single cent is involved, for now at least.
Business Model
Again in response to the panel of judges at Echelon 2010 yesterday, foound responded with location-based advertising.
Getting Foound
foound will be available for iPhone and iPodTouch users on the iTunes App Store in June 2010, and for users of all major mobile platforms by end 2010.
