News Flash: Local community meta-blog Ping.SG celebrates 1st year anniversary
July 3, 2007 by SGE
Anniversary celebrations will feature blog awards. Ping.sg, the community meta-blog for Singapore bloggers will be holding a party in conjunction with its first anniversary on 7 July 2007.
The celebrations will be held at Geek Terminal, a cafe targeting the tech-savvy in Singapore. The highlight of this event is the Ping.sg Blog Awards. Fashioned after the Oscars, award nominees will be showcased prior to the event, and members are invited to vote for their favourites. An award ceremony will be held on that day.
Ping.sg started as a personal project of its creator, freelance web developer, Chua U-Zyn, more than 2 years ago, when U-Zyn was still an undergraduate at NUS. U-Zyn was looking for local Singaporean blogs on a variety of topics, but could not find any such recently-updated blog directory. Being a technology enthusiast, he decided to create his own blog directory.
Ping.sg aggregates and publishes a list of new blog articles by its members. New articles are called ‘pings’, and the number of hits it gets is referred to as ‘pongs’.
Ping.sg is a nucleus to a rapidly growing community of active bloggers with varied backgrounds and interests. It has grown to about 1000 members to date.
Blogging enthusiasts can find out more about the community site at http://ping.sg and about the event at http://ping.sg/party.
