The Ultimate Start-Up Space LogoWhile the brand name of Martell may not necessarily spring to mind when you speak of entrepreneurs, the luxury cognac brand has been acknowledging “Rising Personalities” since 2007 – up-and-coming personalities who have achieved in their respective industries and are poised for much more. One past winner of 2008 was an entrepreneur who started his own restaurant, and since winning the Rising Personalities award, went on to win the Rotary-ASME Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Innovation 2009.

The Ultimate Start-Up Space Challenge

In line with the Martell VSOP “Rise Above” campaign to acknowledge individuals who challenge the impossible and push the boundaries of success, they have launched a new initiative now aimed specifically at visionary entrepreneurs, challenging YOU to share with the world your business dream and seeing it to reality with support and funding – if you win.

The Ultimate Start-Up Space has also partnered with Start-Up@Singapore, Singapore’s most established nationwide business plan competition, for their inaugural 24 Hour Biz Plan Challenge. The event will see close to 100 participants developing their business idea in one of three emerging industries, while adapting it to suit the 760 sq ft. of space offered by The Ultimate Start-Up Space.

The Ultimate Start-Up Space is a unique opportunity to jumpstart your entrepreneurial dream.

Why You Should Participate

For one, you will get publicity from having your submission broadcasted to the world via the Idea Gallery as all submissions will be aggregated there. So you can also check out your competitors if you do join the challenge!

And, the prizes for all 10 finalists and the ultimate winner are invaluable. Here’s a look at what you stand to win.

All 10 finalists will get training from top notch institutions:

1. Business entrepreneurship training from INSEAD
2. Special bundle of banking services and entrepreneurship coaching from Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore

Plus…

In addition to the two prizes above, the ultimate winner of this challenge will of course stand to win the “Ultimate Start-Up Space” in Clarke Quay rent-free for 6 months, funding of S$20,000 (renovation fund from Pernod-Ricard Singapore (Martell VSOP)), AND an Executive Education Programme from INSEAD.

While most startups camp out at their homes and spend much time and effort coordinating their team members, only a few manage to have some funding to rent small office spaces in parts of Singapore that may not be very convenient to get to. Virtual offices and working for home may work wonders for many, but for others, the benefits of having a space to call office may do a lot in terms of productivity and company culture.

This is what makes the space in Clarke Quay all the more enticing. Not only is this rent-free for 6 months – enough time to get an alpha or beta product up and running – but it is in one of the hippest parts of town (with many bars and restaurants) with much foot traffic, and very close by to the main business districts.

Perhaps transform the space into a unique bar? Or perhaps provide a unique service right in the heart of Clarke Quay? What will you use the space for?

Getting Your Shot At The Ultimate Space

All you have to do is to submit a 60-second video elevator pitch of your idea. How easy is that?

Even if you do not wish to enter the Martell VSOP Ultimate Start-Up Space competition, you can still check out the video submissions, vote for the ones you like, and thereby participate in a mini contest that will see two lucky people win a HP Mini PC worth S$600 each.

What Does It Take To Win?

(1) Be original.
(2) Be creative.
(3) Show your business’ huge potential in succeeding.

Your video submission will be scored based on the above three criteria.

Timeline

The top 10 finalists will be announced in February 2010 shortly after the competition ends. And the Ultimate Winner will be chosen and announced one month after in March 2010.

All It Takes is 60 seconds

If you can spend 5 minutes laughing at an inane YouTube video, surely you can spend 60 seconds on a video of your own for a chance to win The Ultimate Start-Up Space.

Get a little bit high if you have to (since it’s the holiday period anyway), switch on your phone, camera or computer video function, look at the clock and get talking! Upload your ultimate, greatest, innovative, creative, world smashing idea in a 60-second video to Martell VSOP at the competition website from now till 12th Feb 2010.

The New Year is here, don’t break any resolutions you can handle. Procrastinate no more and submit your video now!
