An Interview with the Exoro Team
October 11, 2006 by SGE

The Exoro game began as a project by students from NUS by the NUS Entrepreneurship Society (NES), but now it has branched out as a social enterprise and spun off into a company. We sit down with the Exoro Team and ask them a few questions about their product and future business plans.
SGE: Tell us about your background. How many of you founded ExoroGame?
Exoro Team: We are 5 passionate students who are from the engineering fields in NUS. Having engaged in various entrepreneurial projects back in school, we decided to explore this game venture to put our skills to the test – to create a new idea and make it into a commercially successful business.
SGE: How did the company came about? What prompted the team to invent the game?
Exoro Team: Being strong believers of innovation, we created Exorogame to educate people about entrepreneurship in a fun and interesting way. To us, using a game platform is an effective medium for education and this is how Exorogame came about.
SGE: What is the ExoroGame? Care to share with us more about your product and what are its educational values?
Exoro Team: ExoroGame, which means “Success†in Latin, is a card-based team-strategy business simulation game. Every mechanic within the game is a representation of a real world happening. Having introduced ExoroGame to several schools and institutions, players expressed immediate interest to go for a second round and even buying a set as an educational tool for institutional learning.
In teams of three, each company models a real-life logistics company with each member playing a vital role within. The objective of the game is not about winning, but the learning process. Participants with no prior Business or Economic knowledge are exposed to various business concepts, and more importantly, significant lessons learnt through the course of the game.
ExoroGame injects real-life business elements in the form of a fun and interactive game:

• Market supply & demand correlation
• Logistics supply chain management
• Effective team communications
• Fostering competitive strategies
• Cash-flow management & budgeting
• Observing competitors & adaptation
ExoroGame is as close as one can get to the real business world, but in the safe environment of a game.
With no rules, only objectives to achieve, anything is possible in ExoroGame. Participants leave with new-found knowledge, and a greater sense of achievement.
SGE: How do you guys start in marketing and branding the game?
Exoro Team: We started to market ExoroGame under the umbrella of NES, by being the flagship project of NES Local Outreach Program to promote ExoroGame to the schools. Our company focus on quality entrepreneurial education by letting students have fun while learning. Since ExoroGame requires interaction between facilitators and students, we built our company branding gradually through each conducted session.
SGE: How does ExoroGame works as a social enterprise?
Exoro Team: ExoroGame teaches entrepreneurial education to youths locally and aims to nurture the next generation of young successful entrepreneurs!

SGE: What are the interesting lessons in the process of creating and marketing ExoroGame? Can tell us any difficulties or challenges you face.
Exoro Team: In the midst of creating ExoroGame, some of the difficulties include making the game fool-proof and interesting enough to attract people into playing it time after time. We have to come up with game technicalities to ensure that the game flow is simulated to real-life entrepreneurship. The process is really fun and all our members enjoy it, having to learn how to work together as a core founding team of a company and understanding how quality affects our branding.
SGE: Who has played ExoroGame?
Exoro Team: Singapore Institute of Management, overseas delegates from various universities in China, Temasek Junior College, Hwa Chong Institution, members from NUS Entrepreneurship Society, Saint Andrews Junior College, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
SGE: How do you plan to take ExoroGame forward in the future?
Exoro Team: We intend to follow through with the commercialization of ExoroGame packages at major retail outlets. We will also continue with an implementation of ExoroGame via mobile platforms and online. It is likely that we will expand with a portfolio of other ExoroGame products.
