Yes, after a successful event which happened in March, we are coming back this time round with Barcamp Singapore 4. This event is open to all developers/designers/social-media professionals/startups and tech enthusiasts. We are also expecting tech professionals from other parts of Asia and beyond. The event will be happening on 21 Nov 2009 (Sat) in IDA Singapore, Suntec Tower 3, 14th Floor. If you are keen to be part of the organizing team, a participant or even present new ideas and thoughts, then sign up here to take part.

I set off to Subang Jaya for Barcamp Kuala Lumpur (KL) on Friday morning. I reached a day earlier to meet up with some internet specialists and organizers of Barcamp KL. The last Barcamp KL was held in the KLCC area (where the Petronas Towers are). This event was held over the weekend (4 and 5 April 2009) in Inti College, Subang Jaya. The trip turned out to be a good one because it grew to become Barcamp Southeast Asia, with other organizers from Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo & Cambodia. This time round, we have wi-fi available, and the other thing I liked about the location is that the Inti College is located besides the Asia Cafe and also a Starbucks Cafe where I can grab a cup of grande vanilla latte. Our friends across the causeway will be holding Barcamp KL on 4th & 5th of April 2009 in Level 4, Inti College Subang Jaya. You can check out more information about the sessions and venue via their wiki page. If you are keen on web development, social networks and new ideas from Travel 2.0 to Fashion, this is definitely the event to go. BarCamp is basically a very open, participant-driven workshop event where people share knowledge and ideas and expand their social and business network. There is usually no particular theme. Those people who want to share ideas and knowledge – of any subject, in any field – could register for time and room to host their session. Then, the rest of the people could come to event for free and join any session that they are interested in. If they find that the session uninteresting, they could just leave and go to the next one. Note that Barcamp Singapore III is just over and we are looking forward to the KL and Bangkok one in the coming months.

Are you enthusiastic about an idea or topic on energy, media, bio-tech and other industries to collective think of ideas that can be developed amidst the sluggish market conditions? Since the last barcamp gathering in Kuala Lumpur, July 2008, both the Singapore and Malaysia teams have decided to bring together people across both causeways together. The result is Barcamp Johor 2008, where it is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. The event will be held on 6-7 Dec 2008 over a weekend. The event will be held in Menara MSC Cyberport, Level 29, Menara MSC Cyberport, No. 5, Jalan Bukit Meldrum, 80300 Johor Bahr. This is a good time between the developers, investors and entrepreneurs to share their ideas in such challenging times of the financial crisis. For those who are interested to turn up or sign up as a speaker to this event, please register here and also check out the sessions. If you are interested to follow this event, check out their blog and also their twitter feed for the latest news.
After going through the two days in Barcamp Malaysia, I am now back in Singapore. To be honest, the Barcamp Malaysia has been an eye-opener for other fellow Singaporeans and myself who took the trip up to check out the interesting web/tech scene in Malaysia. Developers, entrepreneurs and investors from all walks of life are all gathered in this event, and the best part is that the event still go on with lighting talks (5 minutes given to each presenter and one of the speakers talk about Google Gears) even the official schedule is over. Reporting from the shores across our causeway, BL (our editor) has travelled to Kuala Lumpur this morning to attend Barcamp Malaysia 2008. He is not the only one, as this event has attracted many Singaporeans to turn up there: the entire team from Widgeous (Ridzuan and U-Zyn), Mohan from E27, Ben Koe, Kelvin Quee, Preetam and Wong Meng Weng (a Singaporean entrepreneur who came back from Silicon Valley). Here are some of the highlights for the event with a short review and pictures from the event. Read more
Across our causeway in the coming weekend (26-27 July 2008), our Malaysian friends have organized Barcamp Malaysia at Jalan Ampang (near KLCC), Kuala Lumpur. Other than showcasing the up and coming technology discussions among the developers, entrepreneurs and investors over there, they have also invited us over, for example, Widgeous will be presenting their platform in the Barcamp, and some of us from both SGE and E27 will be attending the event as well, with our editor Bernard Leong also presenting on a panel with his Malaysian counterpart on the state of investment, valuation and funding between both countries & Preetam Rai, who will present his overview on the development of interesting web companies across Asia with his travels. Do check out their blog for the most exciting developments and the schedule of the event. If you happen to be in town, you should check out the event.

Last night, the Barcamp II – Maps and Mobile Unconference has happened last night in NUS Extension, Park Mall from 6.30 to 10 pm. The event was organized by the combined team of Singapore PHP User Group, E27 (Garag3) and Barcamp Singapore and was the first local community event sponsored by Google Singapore. We kicked off with the registration and networking session among the particpants. At precisely 7.30 pm, we gathered everyone into the room for the keynote sessions. Originally, we estimated the number of people turning to be between 80-100, but it turned out more than expected to about 130-150. Hence, it was a great turnout from the local developers community in Singapore. In this narrative post, we also provide the links to related posts and pictures of event. The videos for the presentation will be uploaded soon. Read more
