The concept device, which is still in development, is created by Razer, a gaming hardware company headed by Singapore-born entrepreneur Tan Min-Liang. They recently raised US$50M to develop complete gaming machines.

Razer is targetting a sub-US$1,000 price tag and hopes to bring the product to market by the end of 2012. It will be build on Windows 8, an Android OS overlay, a third generation Intel Core i7 CPU, and a solid-state drive. A discrete graphics chip from AMD or Nvidia is possible.

Also slated to make its way into the tablet is a 10.1-inch touchscreen with 1,280 by 800 pixel resolution, the battery life of a laptop, as well as force feedback and accelerometer built into the game pad handles. It’s unclear if the handles are detachable from the tablet.

Last year, Razer also won the same award, which is subjected to readers’ votes, with another concept, the Switchblade. It later became the Blade laptop.

“We are honored & thrilled to have been recognized by Popular Science,” said Lux Anantharaman, iTwin’s CEO and co-founder in a statement yesterday.

“Winning this award validates a successful launch year for us. Moving into 2012, we are working on improving iTwin in multiple directions – new collaboration-centric features, strengthening iTwin’s inbuilt privacy & security and making it even easier to use.”

Best of What’s New is an annual award to recognize 100 of the most innovative products in the world. Winners will be announced in the December 2011 issue of Popular Science as well as on PopSci.com.

The company has also recently been named a CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the Computer Peripherals product category.

Products nominated into this program are judged by a panel of industrial designers, engineers, and the members of the media for excellence in the design and engineering of cutting edge consumer electronics.

CES, which stands for the International Consumer Electronics Show, is a four decades old consumer electronics trade show in the US. It is run by the Consumer Electronics Association, an American consumer electronics trade association.

iTwin will be showcased at an exhibition booth during the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas.

Previously, iTwin launched a Mac version of their product to allow for file sharing between Windows and Mac users. They also presented at the TechCrunch50 conference in 2009.

The founders, Lux Anantharaman and Kal Takru, were employees of the Institute for Infocomm Research under Singapore’s A*STAR, a government agency dedicated to scientific research. The product was first developed at the organization, and later spun off as a separate commercial venture in 2008.

The device can be purchased on their website for US$99.

Check out the video below for more on how iTwin works:
