When I asked SGE Scout Albert Mai to compile a directory of coworking spaces in Sydney (he’s seeking internship opportunities there), he launched into the task with aplomb. Instead of merely giving me what I asked for, he went above and beyond, doing up a map covering the whole of Australia.
That’s dedication and effort. So, without further delay, I present you a handy guide to coworking spaces in Australia — 43 of them (also check out our map of Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). To be clear, a coworking spaces should possess these characteristics:
- A shared work environment with residents that don’t belong to the same organization.
- Social gatherings, shared values and synergies.
- Building of a community through interactions and events.

Jason Lusk first came to Hanoi to work on a freelance project but ended up becoming a co-founder of ClickSpace, one of the first coworking spaces in Hanoi, Vietnam. While there, he spent time connecting with expat talents in Hanoi: entrepreneurs, consultants, freelancers, and the trailing spouses of diplomats and NGO leaders. All of them were seeking opportunities to connect and work together.
Unfortunately, Hanoi did not have much infrastructure for collaboration. That was why ClickSpace was born: to provide a comfortable, contemporary workspace where talented expats and Vietnamese can work, connect and collaborate.
We spoke to Jason via email to find out more about his story, ClickSpace and his thoughts on the startup scene in Hanoi. Read more

Block 71 has become Singapore’s Cowork Central. The old industrial building, which is experiencing new life as a tech startup hub, is also playing host to a bunch of coworking spaces that cater to the entrepreneurial crowd.
The latest to join this family is an ‘innovation campus’ called Joyful Frog, a new coworking space just launched by startup accelerator JFDI.Asia — which is currently in the midst of its 100-day startup bootcamp.
While JFDI.Asia did not define the venue, which is slightly larger than a tennis court, as a coworking space per se, it does share many characteristics of one, namely, memberships and a limited number of residences, meeting rooms and ‘lily pads’ for discussions plus a cafe for casual interaction, and entrepreneurial-related events on-site. Co-working spaces are becoming popular in many parts of the world. To help you keep track of all the spaces available in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, here’s a map containing most of the co-working spaces in both countries.

Singapore is consistently being ranked as one of the easiest places in to do business. And, as a result, new businesses have been sprouting up in recent years. But let’s face it – no office space is flexible enough to meet the constantly changing needs of a company. Many business do not need a fixed office space all the time, and many other have an extra desk or room at times.
How can we create a network of efficiently managed co-working spaces, so that every office can become a co-working space?

Singapore is fast becoming a hub for co-working spaces, judging by how they pop up like mushrooms in the city.
Now, there’s a new flavor in town, and it is aptly called Hub Singapore.
Located just a stone’s throw away from Orchard Road, Singapore’s prime shopping district, the Hub bills itself as a co-working space for world-changers, offering them access not just to one workspace but also a global network of 32 other Hubs.
It appears to be industry-agnostic too, unlike, say, HackerspaceSG, which appeals to geeks. It is more similar to Kennel, a haven for “creative entrepreneurs”. Read more

Movie night at Hackerspace, a co-working space for tech geeks.
Several co-working spaces like Hackerspace, Smartspace, FounderHQ and Kennel have emerged in Singapore over the past few years, in a nod to the country’s increasingly entrepreneurial and nomadic workforce.
The Singapore government has now also recognized the changing behavior of its workers. In a groundbreaking new intiative, it is issuing out grants to develop the next generation of shared work spaces and home offices.
Dedicated home offices would allow employees with families to better juggle their work and home commitments. For those who find working from home impossible, “Smart Work Centres” would be set up around the island to give employees a shared office nearby. Read more
Just when we thought we’ve found them all, more co-working spaces have emerged to serve entrepreneurs who need a nice working environment but can’t afford a full-fledged office, which is expensive in land scarce Singapore.
Kennel, which brands itself as a “collaborative workspace” for creative entrepreneurs, is one such place. Nestled within the quaint, old world confines of Dempsey Hill and fronting a lush tropical forest, the co-working, or rather, collaborative workspace feels almost like a rejuvenative retreat for weary old souls.
