
The saying goes that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. New Singapore startup Fashfix now wants to apply that concept to women’s fashion.
Launched in October, Fashfix is a web platform that lets women buy, sell, swap, and resell their fashion items. For example, if a user wants to sell a $200 cocktail dress she may never wear again, she can list the item on the website and wait for someone to buy it. Read more

Schmeiden shows off Spyk at Ideas Inc. Plug a smartphone into Spyk, and it instantly becomes a tablet.
Schmeiden emerged as the top startup at Ideas Inc. Business Challenge, winning SGD 200k (USD 163k) in equity funding and a SGD 10k (USD 8.15k) cash prize. The awards were given out at a ceremony on 22 September at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore.
Ideas Inc. is an annual elimination-style startup competition in Singapore that guides entrepreneurs under 35 from idea to execution. The top 15 startups would get SGD 15k to develop their prototypes while the top 6 would potentially get another SGD 50k. The event, started in 2010, is organized by the Nanyang Technopreneurship Center.
Schmeiden, which has developed a prototype device that converts a smartphone into a tablet, will enter into negotiations on the terms of the funding with Invention Capital and Jungle Ventures, each supplying SGD 100k. Read more

Three startups have won S$10,000 in prize money to commercialize their prototypes in the Ideas.Inc Business Challenge, which saw about 750 participants (in 230 teams), a 50 percent increase from last year. Read more
If you are attending Ideas.inc Startup Conference (Grand Final) 2011 this Saturday, you should give a try for oppurtunity to walk away with S$2,000 for 60 seconds amount of work. There will be a workshop about Elevator Pitch at 11.15am and it is compulsory for those who join Ideas.inc Elevator Pitch. The pitching session itself will be at 3.45pm. The idea that you pitch must be a new idea. You can’t pitch existing ideas or ideas of your already registered company.

Six teams have made the grand finals of Idea.Inc Business Challenge 2011 (see past coverage here), an annual competition organized by Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University that selects teams with the most innovative ideas and molds them into commercially viable businesses. The top six must bring their ideas towards early commercialization and entry into the market in the next two months. Read more
Over 200 teams submitted their idea and the best 15 ideas have been selected in the Ideas Inc Business Challenge and next month, 22nd July, there will be Ideas.Inc. Top 15 Semi-finals and Startup Showcase 2011. Ideas.Inc. is a business competition that accelerates the development of high-growth start-ups and commercialization of viable business ideas. It is not focusing much on well-prepared business plans and choreographed elevator pitches, as conventional business plan competitions often do, it pertains more to the actualization and development of the start-ups.
