InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile ad network, has revealed that in July to September 2011 (Q3), Android impressions for mobile ads in the Asia Pacific have grown 7.5 percent while impressions for the iPhone, Nokia, and Symbian OSes have declined by around 1 to 3 percent each from the previous quarter.
However, Nokia and Symbian still combine for 47 percent of the market, followed by Android at 17 percent, iPhone at 6 percent, and RIM at 1 percent.
For Asia Pacific, InMobi has included Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. Read more
Sometimes you can’t beat a good name. Take the newly launched iPhone app, Summon Auntie. No, it is not pronounced “sum-muhn” or in IPA lingo “suhm-uhn” – as you foreign tongues might say it – but “sum-mahn” [I would have loved to insert a sample of aforesaid Singlish pronunciation here]. I have seen this app make the rounds amongst my friends, fast.
First, this app aims to help drivers be alerted whenever a parking warden or “parking auntie” is close to the area in which your car is parked. This is so that you can rush back to your car in time if you are over the parking time limit. Read more

With electronic bills slowly entering mainstream usage, GreenPost hopes to aggregate all your digital bills into one place for convenient viewing. Users would need to register for an account on the website (or through their iPhone, iPad, and Android app) and link the respective service providers — like your phone company for instance — with GreenPost. After that, the bills will appear on the GreenPost website or app. Read more

Joining Internet behemoth Google in the increasingly crowded near-field communication (NFC) hot tub is mobile company Sony Ericsson, who is putting NFC chips into its Android phones, the Times of India revealed (see also uses for NFC).
A while back, we reported that a tech blogger discovered some NFC functionality on the Google+ mobile app. Google has also been actively implementing the technology for its Google Wallet and Google Places services. Read more

Between dedicated photo-sharing site, Flickr and social network, Facebook, it is the latter that sees more photos being uploaded everyday: a good 5 billion photos are uploaded on Facebook every month, while Flickr has in total upward of 5 billion photos. No doubt, users love photos on Facebook – both uploading and flipping through them. Development lab, Anideo – funded by the Singapore-based co-founder of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin – has released Fotobook, an iPhone app (iTunes) that allows you to view and save your friends’ Facebook photos. If you are a fan of 37signals‘ Backpack collaborative software, having it on the go on your mobile might make things even easier. Mobrick (the team behind Common Totes and Shoplette) has just released Backpocket (iTunes), an iPhone app that “helps Backpack users access their Backpack accounts on the go with a consistent and intuitive interface that focuses on the features they use the most while on the go”.
Backpocket also lets you manage multiple Backpack accounts and supports offline editing so you can work offline and sync your changes later. You can also check out all the other extras for Backpack users. Read more
This geek met serial entrepreneur and CEO of Geodelic Rahul Sonnad in San Francisco last month and understood that they may be expanding to South East Asia soon, although details are not announced at this point as discussions are ongoing.
Geodelic’s product GeoGuides beta which was introduced for smart phones last month is an interesting geolocation app where you can instantly turn your venue into an online and mobile app and people can check in, discover interesting services, as well as find friends. Their customers include Clear Channel, with their FLYsmart Airport Guides, and the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau to engage with consumers in and around their location. Read more
