On August 24, a Californian court issued preliminary rulings on the lawsuit between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage over their collaboration on a tablet device. Of the five motions that were filed against Fusion Garage, all except that of the breach of fiduciary duty have been struck down. Most immediately relevant for Fusion Garage is the squashing of TechCrunch’s demand to sequester proceeds from sales of their JooJoo tablet.
What’s been going on?
In 2008, TechCrunch announced their project to build a low-priced tablet device; two prototypes and six months later, Fusion Garage was brought in to work on the software side of the project. Originally planned for launch end-November 2009, Mike Arrington announced the death of the CrunchPad, claiming that TechCrunch had been booted off their own project. Read more
While the JooJoo, Fusion Garage’s flagship product, was never marketed as an iPad clone, the iPad’s official launch in Singapore tomorrow 23rd July should have triggered a flurry of activity from Fusion Garage’s PR machine. 90 sounds like the score you get on a primary school quiz. Well, it apparently also is the number of pre-orders Fusion Garage had for their flagship tablet, the Joo Joo.
The latest news is that Fusion Garage’s Joo Joo has revamped its interface, and that though pre-ordered Joo Joos were supposed to be shipped by end Feb, a manufacturing delay means the device will only be shipped in two weeks time on 25th March. Read more

One of the largest manufacturers of cell phones, mobile devices, netbook and notebook computers in Southeast Asia and distribution giant, CSL Group of Malaysia, will be the company taking care of the manufacturing cost of the JooJoo and at the same time, has also made a strategic investment in Fusion Garage.
