MoVend and Nokia try to save Windows Phone

Singapore’s MoVend, a mobile in-app payments platform, is working with Nokia to rescue the Windows Phone.

They’re organizing a contest for developers to integrate MoVend into their apps, hence providing Windows Phone 7 with a real in-app payment solution they lack.

Despite the recent marketing push, it still lags behind iOS and Android in market share. According to Gartner, Windows Phone is capturing only one percent of market share in Asia for Q3 2011, lagging behind even Symbian and Blackberry.  Read more

Sony Ericsson jumps onto NFC bandwagon

Joining Internet behemoth Google in the increasingly crowded near-field communication (NFC) hot tub is mobile company Sony Ericsson, who is putting NFC chips into its Android phones, the Times of India revealed (see also uses for NFC).

A while back, we reported that a tech blogger discovered some NFC functionality on the Google+ mobile app. Google has also been actively implementing the technology for its Google Wallet and Google Places services. Read more

(1) According to a local report, Baidu is stealthily developing its own Mobile OS(codenamed Qiushi which means fruits in autumn) which is based around Android and will be released by year-end. Baidu dismissed the rumor by referring Qiushi as an under-developing mobile ad product. Read more

Microsoft launches Office 365 in Asia and the world

Temasek Polytechnic Students Win Singapore Imagine Cup 2011

Yesterday was a big day for four teams from various institutions here in Singapore. Participating in the Software Design finals of the Singapore leg of Imagine Cup were teams Bliss-Zard (Nanyang Polytechnic), Credit Mobile (National University of Singapore), ElderGuardian (Temasek Polytechnic) and The Strides (Nanyang Polytechnic).

Team ElderGuardian took the first spot and will be heading to New York City this July to compete in the worldwide finals against other student teams from more than 100 countries and regions around the globe. Read more
