
Next Wednesday, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre will hold a panel discussion entitled “Startup Asia: Top strategies for cashing in Asia’s Innovation Boom”. It will reveals the winning strategies of a new generation of entrepreneurs who no longer look to Facebook, Amazon and eBay for cues but are crafting their own business models, going global, and scoring IPOs on Wall Street. The panel includes Koh Soo Boon of iGlobe Partners, Wong Kok Cheong of Sparky Animation, Darius Cheung of tencube Wavesecure. Rebecca A. Fannin and Prof Wong Poh Kam will act as moderators.

This Friday, the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre will organize a talk entitled Building A Viable Social Business with Jack Sim (see interview with SGE) of World Toilet Organization as the speaker. Next week, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre will organize a workshop with Robin Low of Relief 2.0 as the speaker. This two-day course in marketing and PR is suitable for those who have no prior knowledge of public relations, social media or experience in copywriting. They can walk away gaining the confidence to start a social media campaign and engage with the media.
About the Speaker
Robin is an international entrepreneur who is involved in training, researching and consulting companies on the use of Social Media. Robin is currently helping in a project on rebranding Baja California in a collaboration project with Emerson College and the Mexican Tourism Board. Robin is also giving trainings to the Tourism industry in Sri Lanka and several companies in Singapore.
Robin has been training companies on Social Media since 2008, and in 2009 did a comprehensive training for Aitken Spence Hotels and Aitken Spence Travels, the largest hotel chain in Sri Lanka, which has Luxury hotels in Maldives, India, Oman and Sri Lanka. Aitken Spence has since seen an increase in hotel occupancy, customer retention and Internet bookings.
Robin is a guest speaker at many universities, including Emerson College, Harvard University, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management Institute. Robin also started @SGbrands, a twitter account helping Singapore Companies spread their brands and @SGTweetup, a twitter networking account. And managed several Twitter gatherings and talks in Singapore, Boston and New York.

But what is an ‘entrepreneurial economy’? In this talk Professor Erkko Autio, QinetiQ-EPSRC Chair in Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship in Physical Sciences, reviews different approaches to measuring the entrepreneurial character of nations and discuss their merits and weaknesses. He concludes by proposing a policy-oriented conceptual definition for the concept of an ‘entrepreneurial nation’. Read more
