Two programmes by SPRING that help meet the funding needs of start-ups in Singapore:

SPRING Startup Enterprise Development Scheme (SPRING SEEDS) - The SPRING Start-up Enterprise Development Scheme (SPRING SEEDS) is an equity-based co-financing option for Singapore-based start-ups creating innovative products and/or processes, possessing intellectual content and strong growth potential across international markets. SPRING SEEDS Capital co-invests into commercially viable local start-ups, with differentiated value proposition and matches dollar-for-dollar to third-party investor(s), up to $1million, upon investment approval.

Young Entrepreneurs Scheme for Start-ups (YES! Start-ups) - This scheme provides funding support of up to S$50,000 for youths to set up their innovative startup. SPRING matches S$4 for every S$1 that you raise through self-funding, schools or third-party sources, the grant is capped at S$50,000

India telecomm company invests in Singapore-based LeapSky Wireless

LeapSky Wireless, which is working on a solution that gives business travelers access to wireless Internet on mobile devices by tapping on the host country’s 3G network, has received new funding from India-based telecomms company One97 Communications.

Currently, business travelers are restricted to wifi access in the hotel, which often allows connection to one device, or they have to purchase a local 3G SIM card, which can have prohibitive costs. The hardware consists of a compact wifi router with a SIM card embedded within, giving customers hassle-free access to the Internet while on the go. Read more

USD 32M Fund For Med Tech Startups

People who have innovative ideas in medical technology will rejoice when you hear this latest news: as part of the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2015 plan (PDF), the Singapore government is launching a SGD 40M (USD 32M) fund for medical technology startups.

This funding will be managed by SPRING SEEDS Capital, under a new Biomedical Sciences Accelerator (BSA) programme. They will select up to two BSA operators. High-potential med-tech start-ups will be identified, evaluated, financed and managed as well as to better commercialised the intellectual property developed in the sector by the selected operators. Referral Marketing Startup Anafore Raises Seed Round From BAF Spectrum, Skype Co-Founder Toivo Annus

Emerging Enterprise Award 2011

The Business Times and OCBC Bank first launched the inaugural Emerging Enterprise in 2008 to recognise oustanding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore. Winners of the Emerging Enterprise receive attractive prizes to support their growth and development. Business Challenge Currently, the Ideas.Inc Business Challenge organized by Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre, NTU and SPRING Singapore is still ongoing before the deadline for executive summary on 27 November 2009. Over the past two months, I have conducted three Executive Summary Workshops in NTC, Civil Service College and National Library Board for about 150 participants.
