Build Your Own Virtual Museum Competition

Using the newly developed Cybermuseum platform by Visual Factory, exhibitions and virtual museums supported by rich multimedia can now be created by anyone. To help promote this platform, Visual Factory is organising a competition for people to create themed virtual galleries. The deadline is 31st Jan 2010.
What’s exciting is that because the National Heritage Board (NHB) is supporting this project, they will be releasing 1000 images from its museums’ art collections for participants to use in the competition. Also, there will be curatorial and technical workshops to equip students with the requisite conceptual and technical skills to successfully build the virtual galleries.
This Cybermuseum initiative is great because (1) it prompted the release of data and images for public usage in the building of virtual museums (2) the workshops can help increase the technical skills of those interested (albeit just in the usage of Visual Factory technology).
As a virtual world enabler, Visual Factory’s Cybermuseum initiative is something to be excited about.
In addition to financial support from NHB, Cybermuseum was also funded by the Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO).
